Az 1945. március 30-án született Eric Clapton számos sikeres együttesben fordult meg. A Slowhand (Lassú kéz) mûvésznéven is ismert gitáros, énekes, szerzõ az elsõ – még akusztikus – hangszerét 13 éves korában kapta.
1962-ben 17 évesen vásárolta első elektromos gitárját. Elsõ együttesét, a Roostert 1963 elején alapította. Következõ állomása, a sikerek elíndítója a YARDBIRDS. De itt sem töltött el hosszú idõt; 65-ben távozik és John Mayall Bluesbreakers-ébe ment, hogy a mestertõl tanulva technikáját tovább csiszolja, tökéletesítse.
Ebben az állandóan változó felállású kisérozenekarban sem maradt sokáig. Úgy érezte többre képes, nem ez az igazi helye. 1966-os távozása után egy supergroup, a Cream oszlopos tagja lett.
A Cream igazán nagy sikereket hozott számára. Ez idõ tájt már egyre több olyan házfal volt Angliában, amelyet a “Clapton is God” felirat díszített a közrendfenntartók nem kis bosszúságára – akik nyilván nem rockrajongók. (passzioo.hu)
