Az 1963. november 8-án a Georgia államban, Albanyban született Russel Malone nagyon jó gitáros, ami nem is csoda, mert négy esztendős kora óta pengeti hangszereit. 1988-90 között Jimmy Smith orginistával, majd 1994-ig Harry Connick Jr. big bandjével dolgozott, 1995-től Diana Krall triójának tagja. Rendszeresen turnézik zenekarával, a The Russell Malone Quartet-tel és Ron Carterrel, a legendás bőgőssel is.
